Lærerinde.
After marrying Jacob she settled at Kinn and had 11 children. She was the
school teacher, the mother, the farmer and the community leader.
She kept around six milk cows, a dozen sheep a couple of pigs and chicken. This
way she could keep the household self supplied. She canned berries and made
jams and jellies, salted, smoked and dried meat. Every morning she got out of
bed before 5 a.m. and baked 8 - 10 loafs of bread.
She did a lot of reading and her curiosity led her to experiment with growing
things that were not common in the area at the time. She had the first
strawberry field. She also experimented with dying wool with using extracts
from different plants. She made cheese and various other dairy products.
